ARC / SERVICES

ARC services span traditional handyperson work to developing custom assistive technology solutions. We focus on problems that are personal in nature or that may be too small or too individual-specific to call upon institutional resources. A few examples will help illustrate the scope of our services.

The Artisans Repair Club can…

• Rewire an existing lamp to extend its reach, or install a new lamp to improve visibility in key household areas
• Replace high-dexterity switches (requiring fine finger control) with high-accessibility switches
• Install bathroom grab bars to facilitate mobility (we can also move or reposition existing grab bars to improve access)
• 3D print custom parts for wheelchairs, including fabricating parts that are no longer available
• Repair walkers and wheelchairs, especially core components like brake and bearing assemblies
• Create specialized grips and hand fixtures for devices of any kind (phones, remotes, cups, keyboards)
• Modify existing furniture with braces, transition bars, height adjusters, and custom upholstery to accommodate mobility challenges and body differences
• Replace jacket buttons with Velcro, rubberize zipper pulls for better grip, and modify clothing generally to increase ease of use
• Create easy-to-follow workflow diagrams and instructional placards to assist in the use of complex devices
• Repair small household appliances, electronics, and other objects as needed—anything that will significantly improve folks’ day-to-day experience

All ARC services are entirely free of charge; all labor and materials are donated by the Artisans. The scope of ARC services is necessarily limited. Some problems are too big to tackle, some require skills we don’t have or can’t acquire in a meaningful timeframe, and some fall outside our purview. Despite these limitations, we pride ourselves on being creative, caring problem solvers ready to meet our clients wherever they are and with gratitude for their trust.
